Today saw the completion of our Video production summer camp. Ten students from Doncaster took part in this intensive course (accredited by NCFE to two grade Bs at GCSE). Planning, producing and editing their own movies, the students assembled an online blog as a portfolio of evidence.
Using a combination of different cameras and locations, the students made movies in teams of 3 to 5 based on important issues to them. Their final 10 minute film shows a combination of editing techniques and even incorporates some studio work.
Other skills developed during the course include their IT skills, confidence and team building as well as approaches to the Media industry.
They deserve heaps of praise for their achievements; maybe even a plastic OSCAR!
NCFE Video Production is one of our Digital Media Arts projects available at the CLC.

Today three Doncaster schools took part in our first DB8 day! Many thanks to our professional university debate mentors (Dee, Richard and Susan) for the fantastic training they gave to their groups. 36 Year 8 and 9 students from Sir Thomas Wharton, Balby Carr College and Rossington All Saints worked in mixed groups to research a chosen topic, structure arguments for and against and gain communication skills in presenting to an audience. This afternoon, all the students took part in televised debates – it got quite heated at times! Watch this space for an edited highlights video over the next few weeks.
We would love to hear from other schools or groups interested in promoting or taking part in debate and discussion in Doncaster.
